Lead System Engineer

Omaha, NE

Primary Job Responsibilities:

        Leads and directs the daily activities of the System Engineers, including supervising and coordinating the work of the System Engineers and providing their performance feedback to the Director/First VP of IS Operations

        Serves as project manager for various projects as they apply to specific area of responsibility

        Performs all duties associated with Windows Server, Solaris, and Linux 24x7 on-call support and perform configuration tuning as necessary for the Production, Test, and Development platforms

        Designs and documents standard system installations and integration. Ensures that any previous documentation is updated with new changes

        Ensures that all supported systems are highly reliable, secure, and performing at acceptable levels. Performs root cause analysis of outages and ensures they are repaired

        Monitors operating system capacity for long-term effectiveness

        Reviews any new O/S patches or releases that would improve performance or are recommended by the vendor

        Continually enhances alarming and system monitoring for servers and network

        Aids in the research, development and deployment of new technologies and multi-vendor integration.  Assists in ordering, planning, and creating integration plans for installing new hardware as required

        Develops data center procedures and policies

        Provides security analysis and implementation

        Develops proposals and presentations for review by management

        Designs, implements and maintains a consistent backup and disaster recovery plan

        Ensures timely and effective delivery of hardware upgrades, network upgrades and new configurations

        Participates in planning design, technical review and implementation for new infrastructure hardware and operating systems for voice and data communication networks

        Assists in developing ongoing security strategy

        Provides strategic design, enhancement, and troubleshooting for all network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, and load-balancing devices)

        Develops network maintenance standards and procedures

        Provides assistance and backup support to other System Engineers as needed

        Participates in making capacity planning recommendations

 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

        Bachelors degree in computer related field or equivalent job experience

        Microsoft certification at MCSE level

        6 years’ experience of Windows Server 2008 R2/2012 engineering and administration

        4 years’ experience of network engineering including VOIP, load balancing, routing, switches and troubleshooting thereof

        4 years’ experience of SAN administration preferably with NetApp

        Experience with server virtualization preferably with VMware

        Good experience of implementing and supporting a disaster recovery site

        Experience with building and supporting development, acceptance test, production and disaster recovery environments

        Experience with coding in PowerShell and the use of Active Directory toolkits

        Strong working knowledge of DNS and Apache

        Proven project management experience

        Ability to work in a team environment

        Ability to perform basic network troubleshooting

        Ability to analyze problems and identify alternative solutions

        Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers and various business contacts in a courteous and professional manner

        Ability to organize, prioritize and handle multiple projects while ensuring on-time completion

        Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple projects and team members
