Latin American Spanish Linguist

San Jose, CA

 

CSS Staffing has an open position with our direct client in San Jose, CA for a Latin American Spanish Linguist. Reporting to the MT Language Specialist Manager, the successful candidate will join the MTLS team to work as our contractor Latin American Spanish MTLS, for all MT linguistic work pertaining to the client’s Latin American e-commerce site. Need to be born, raised and received college training in a Latin American Country.

 

 

Core responsibilities:

Provide Latin American Spanish-specific linguistic services, including:

  •  Reviewing human-translated and post-edited client content to deliver high-quality training data for MT engines 
  • Evaluating MT systems’ output (rating, ranking vs. other systems) 
  • Analyzing MT systems’ output to detect error patterns 
  • Provide assistance in other linguistic areas, such as: 
    • Semantic annotation (e.g. Named Entity Recognition - English) 
    • Quality assurance of automatically-generated content (English) 

The successful candidates will possess experience in the following key skills:

  • BA or MA in Linguistics/Translation Studies 
  • 2-3 years of localization experience and/or evaluating machine translation output 
  • Experience in semantic annotation, POS annotation, and machine learning QA highly valued 
  • Native fluency in Latin American Spanish and a deep understanding of Latin American culture 
  • Strong familiarity with the Machine Translation industry and best practices for post-editing/reviewing 
  • Strong familiarity with translation technologies and localization and processes 
  • Analytical mind: This position requires the capacity to detect patterns in highly varied and ambiguous data
  • Critical thinking: you should enjoy questioning assumptions and re-examining processes. 
  • Problem-solving - enjoy brainstorming and applying logic to solve new problems
  • Capacity to communicate complex linguistic problems to people with different backgrounds (e.g. client’s MT Science Team)
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
