Director of SW Development

Omaha, NE


CSS Staffing has an open position with a local client for an individual with a demonstrated track record of Director or equivalent level support for a software development team as well as providing strategic leadership within IT and across the organization.  You will be responsible to manage the efforts of a team of application developers as well as responsible for the effective delivery and utilization of information technology. You will also partner with business areas to develop plans to meet their business strategies and objectives and apply multi-dimensional expertise in IT, project management, people management, planning and development. 


Direct hire - candidates who must be eligible to work in the US on a W2 basis without sponsorship or visa transfer


Core Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the strategic planning process for both the business and IT organizations
  • Work with business leaders to identify and frame their IT needs, mapping them to strategic plans and prioritizing them
  • Build and lead a growing team of engineers by providing strong leadership engagement for both career guidance and technical vision for the product and platform
  • Drive high-quality execution and operational excellence by communicating clear directions and expectations
  • Play an active role in implementing innovative solutions by challenging the status quo and encouraging others to improve overall effectiveness
  • Facilitate processes for request intake and ideation, gathering requirements, mapping capabilities, and coordinating dependences and complex workflows
  • Facilitate regular on-going portfolio performance review meetings with leaders
  • Manage execution with the Program Management team to ensure that programs/projects are delivered on-time, on-budget, on benefit and on-quality and intervene to resolve issues
  • Perform day-to-day management, project management, intergroup communication, quarterly and annual performance evaluations & management by objective (MBO) planning and assessments


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, related field or equivalent experience
  • 10 years or more of professional IT experience
  • 7 or more years of professional IT management experience in a large, enterprise environment
  • 5 or more years of experience leading/managing high-functioning, highly agile teams of engineers that deliver scalable technology solutions
  • 2 or more years of professional Director-level experience in a large enterprise environment
  • Experience with software engineering practices and standard methodologies
  • Confirmed ability to understand complex distributed systems
  • Program and project management experience
  • Working knowledge of how business and IT organizations interact and operate together
  • Experience building successful and collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization through trust, transparency and delivering on commitments
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in an environment of rapid change positively and professionally
  • Strong desire to learn and grow, and to coach engineers to do the same through feedback, instruction and encouragement
  • Ability to translate a business strategy/agenda into technology terms and vice-versa
  • Ability to ask penetrating questions, detect unstated assumptions and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to analyze and act on key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficient at executive communication with the ability to establish context
  • Ability to translate strategy and vision to actionable roadmaps, projects and tasks
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated influencing and negotiation abilities
  • A strong value system with impeccable integrity, enthusiasm and passion for learning


  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field
