 IBM Z/OS Administration


Omaha, NE

CSS Staffing has an open position with our direct local client for a IBM Z/OS Administration. 

The person filling this role will configure, monitor, tune and upgrade an IBM Z/OS system and must be able to resolve connection and performance issues.  The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail and will have exhibited responsibility for a large critical mainframe system.  Attention to detail is critical and if that is part of your nature, you may be a great fit for this opportunity.

Core Responsibilities:


  • Maintain and support mainframe processes to achieve high-level availability 
  • Ensure mainframe systems are operating efficiently 
  • Look for ways to improve cost-effectiveness and efficiencies 
  • Evaluate software and utilities for efficient system performance 
  • Cross-train within team to maximize support availability




The successful candidate will possess the following skills:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent education and experience
  • Over 10 of years systems programming experience in a large IBM Mainframe environment
  • Working knowledge of the following hardware;


o    IBM Mainframe


o    OSA Adapters


o    Cryptographic Services


  • Working knowledge of the following Operating System Software and Tools;


o   Z/OS Operating system, SMPE, WLM, OMVS


o   Standard IBM utilities


o   SAS


o   IBM Tivoli Monitoring System


  • High level of knowledge in mainframe disaster recovery planning/implementation
  • High level knowledge of the following software products and tools;


o   IBM Assembler Language programming


o   IBM Netview and System Automation




o   IBM Connect: Direct (NDM) and Secure Plus


o   IBM Infoprint Server (IP Printway)


o   IBM Omegamon Suite of Monitoring products (z/OS, CICS, DB2, MFN, Storage, Messaging)


o   Mackinney Systems tools: “VTAM Switch”


o   Computer Associates Network Monitoring tool Netmaster


  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance and supervision
